Black Lipstick Magazine Pitches/How To Submit (Pay: $100- $150))

Black Lipstick is referred to as the internet’s boudoir of off-center beauty, literature and culture.

Their magazine features works of art and writings on makeup, mental health, mortality, queerness, nostalgia, pop culture, parenthood, weird dreams, dark thoughts, and everything else.

It is a newsletter that was created by a novelist who according to their website spent “most of my time underground working on writing that will not see the light of day for years. Black Lipstick gives me a chance to connect in real time, to share my work and the work of writers I love.”

Black Lipstick is a labor of love, but it will always pay writers. Because of time and financial constraints, they will have to be extremely selective about the pieces that they choose. Please familiarize yourself with their vibe before submitting!

How To Submit To Black Lipstick:

  • Please email your pitch or piece to blacklipstickmag@gmail.com with “Submission [category]: [title]” in the subject line.
  • You will receive a response within 3-4 weeks if they are interested.
  • If a month goes by with no response, please consider it a pass.

What They Want

Black Lipstick Wants:

  • Touching personal essays or hybrid nonfictions.
  • Creative and deep reviews of books, beauty products, films or different life experiences.
  • Interviews with artists, writers and self-made icons.
  • Glamour-forward with a punk ethos. Edgy but not edgelord. If your piece is too literary for Allure but too frivolous for Guernica, it is probably Black Lipstick material.
  • If you have an idea but are not sure if it is a fit, email them.

Payment

Rates for pieces:

  • Essays/hybrid creative nonfiction (1500-3500 words): $150
  • Creative reviews and interviews (1000-2000 words): $100
