The Princeton Arts Fellowship is generously funded in part by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The Princeton Arts Fellowship is a prestigious opportunity for early-career artists to get into a great academic environment while growing In their career.

Therefore, this fellowship is designed for individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary promise in various artistic disciplines. These include, but are not limited to, composition, conducting, music, choreography, visual arts, film, poetry, novel writing, playwriting, design, direction, and performance art.



Eligibility and Requirements

  • Who Can Apply?
    Early-career artists from diverse fields and practices.
  • Individuals who will benefit from spending two years at Princeton, engaging with a vibrant artistic and academic community.
  • Furthermore, there is no age restrictions.
  • Also, non-U.S. citizens are welcome.
  • More so, you are Not eligible if:
    – you have earned a Ph.D. from Princeton University.
    – you have had a continuous and sustained relationship with the university.


Application Process

  • Application Opens July 1, 2024. Therefore, the deadline is September 10, 2024.

  • Required Documents:
  • In addition, send in a detailed CV outlining the applicant’s career and achievements.
    – 750-Word Proposal:
    – How the two-year fellowship will be utilized to advance their work.
    – Potential teaching, directing, or choreographing plans with undergraduates.
    – Examples of efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in artistic practice, teaching, or research.
    – Contact information for three references (no letters required initially).
    – Also include relevant samples of the applicant’s work with a brief explanatory statement.
    – Submission Guidelines:
    – Work samples compiled into a single PDF (up to 10MB).
    – PDF can include links to external files if necessary.
    – Indicate which artistic program (e.g., Creative Writing, Dance, Theater, Music, Visual Arts) will review the submission.
The Princeton Arts Fellowship

Fellowship Details

  • During each year, fellows receive an annual stipend of $92,000.
  • Additionally, fellows are awarded $5,000 for research expenses per academic year.
  • Furthermore, they receive $2,000 for classroom expenses per academic year.

Responsibilities and Expectations

– Teaching: One course per semester or an equivalent artistic project with students.
– In addition, Residency is Not mandatory but significant time at Princeton is required.
– More so, active participation in the university community is needed.

– Princeton provides visa sponsorship for work authorization for non-U.S. citizens.
