The Arts Writers Grant supports both emerging and established writers who focus on contemporary visual art.

 

Additionally, these grants support projects that address both general and specialized art audiences, from short reviews for magazines and newspapers to in-depth scholarly studies.

Submission Guidelines

  • Before applying, it’s highly recommended to thoroughly read through the Application Guide.
  • Each project type has specific eligibility requirements and word count limits for writing samples.
  • It is essential to remember that applicants can only apply for one project per grant cycle and must choose between Article, Book, or Short-Form Writing. Moreover, application questions play a crucial role; the eloquence and coherence of answers are considered in the evaluation process.

Eligibility

  • The application opens on April 10 and closes on May 15 for the current grant cycle. Eligible arts writers must be individuals who focus on contemporary visual art.
  • These writers can be art historians, artists, critics, curators, journalists, or writers who are strongly engaged with contemporary visual arts.
  •  Furthermore, applicants must be either a US citizen, permanent resident, or holder of an O-1 visa.There’s also a minimum age requirement of twenty-five years old.
  • Additionally, applicants must be published authors, with specific publication requirements varying for each project type.
  • Finally, applicants cannot be current employees, consultants, board members, or funders of Creative Capital or the Andy Warhol Foundation.

 

Rewards

 

  • Grants range from $15,000 to $50,000 are available across three categories: articles, books, and short-form writing.
