Emerging Writers’ Contest 2024/ How to Apply ($2000 + More)

Emerging Writer’s Contest is now open and submissions can start coming in!

The 2024 Emerging Writer’s Contest invites writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry to showcase their work and compete for exciting prizes. Eligibility for Emerging Writers’ Contest

• Writers must not have published a book, including eBooks, translations, or self-published works.
• No forthcoming books before April 15, 2025.
• Applicants must not be affiliated with Emerson College or Ploughshares.
• More so, entrants must not have any relationship with Emerson College before April 15, 2025.

Submission Guidelines

• Submission window: March 1 at noon EST to May 15 at noon EST.
• Three winners will be selected in each genre (fiction, nonfiction, and poetry).
• More so, there are free entry for current subscribers through Winter 2024-2025.
•  $30 fee for non-subscribers, including a 1-year subscription to Ploughshares.
• International submitters, please contact via email for fee information.
• It important to note that fiction and nonfiction submissions should be under 6,000 words.
• Poetry submissions: 3-5 pages.
• Submit one entry per year via the online submission manager.
• Furthermore, the works should be original and previously unpublished work only.
• Entries must be typed, double-spaced pages recommended.
• Remove all identifying information from submissions.

Reward

• Publication: Winning entries will be published in the Winter 2024-25 issue of Ploughshares.
  Winners will receive publication in Ploughshares, a $2,000 prize, a review from Aevitas Creative Management, and a 1-year subscription to Ploughshares.
• One submission per author for the duration of the contes
• – Simultaneous submissions to other journals allowed, but notify Ploughshares immediately upon acceptance elsewhere.
