The International Writing Program (the IWP) at the University of Iowa is inviting writers from all over the world to enroll for its latest creative writing course “Stories of Place: Writing and the Natural World”.

The last free MOOC was about writing fiction. This time around, participants will learn about the different ways and many possible types of creative non-fiction, ranging from essays, science journalism, travel narratives, and speculative portrayals of the natural future. Amazing, right?

Wait, there’s more.

Writers will also learn to figure out ways to portray truth and fact, whether it involves narrating stories about the local, the international, the imperceptible, the gorgeous, or the indeterminate.

What’s amazing is that the course content is taught by writers who are both native and non-native English speakers. One of my Ankara press writer-sisters is in this faculty this time. Her name is Amara Nicole Okolo. She is one amazing writer everyone should look out for.

Every writer is welcome to enroll for this course. Don’t be shy to participate. You’ll find both established and budding writers in the classes. You’ll also find writers who are  who are trying to improve their own English language skills.

Don’t forget that reading and listening to writers from a variety of backgrounds can help you find your own voice. I think this is a good platform for writers who want to learn to write about their own experience.

This course is instructor-led from the 15th of November to the 31th of December, 2018. However, the course will remain open as self-paced until 15th March, 2019.
