The ZHR Writing Prize for Women is thrilled to announce the opening of entries for its esteemed competition, starting from April 1st, 2024, and concluding on June 30th.

Submission Guidelines For The ZHR Writing Prize for Women

 

  • The competition seeks non-fiction submissions from women of Pakistani nationality or heritage, aged 18 and above.
  • Both professional and unpublished writers are welcome to submit entries.
  • Entries from family members, relatives, or close associates of Zeenat Haroon Rashid are not eligible.
  • Previous winners are also excluded from entering for two years following their win.
  • Additionally, submissions longlisted for the ZHR Prize in any previous year cannot be resubmitted.
  • Entries should be prose writing in English, with a maximum length of 3000 words.
  • Only one submission per person is permitted.
  • The submitted work must be attached to the email, with the filename being the title of the entry.
  • Entries must be submitted via email to [email protected].
  • Participants are reminded that submission of an entry implies acceptance of all competition rules.

Eligibility Criteria

 

  • Participants must be women of Pakistani nationality or heritage, possessing a valid CNIC, NICOP, or Pakistani passport.
  • The competition is open to both professional and unpublished writers, with the exception of previous winners and those closely associated with Zeenat Haroon Rashid.
  • There is no entry fee.

 

 

Deadline And Notifications 

 

  • Entries must be submitted via email to [email protected] between April 1st and June 30th, 2024.
  • All entries will be acknowledged by automated email, and candidates considered for the longlist will be asked to submit scans of their ID documents.
  • Longlisted and shortlisted submissions will be announced on the prize website by specified dates, with the winner being announced on or before November 15, 2024.

 

 

Judging

 

Experienced readers will select submissions for a longlist, which will then be considered by a panel of judges comprising professional writers, editors, academics, and publishers. The judges will determine a shortlist of six submissions, from which the winner will be selected.

 

 

Amendments to Rules

 

  • The ZHR Writing Prize for Women reserves the right to amend the competition rules if necessary.
  • Any changes will be communicated on the prize website.

Author Rights

 

Submitted works must be original and unpublished, with worldwide copyright retained by the author. However, the ZHR Writing Prize for Women reserves the right to publish shortlisted submissions on their website and the winning submission in a national newspaper or magazine.

 

Payment

 

The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of Rs.100,000.
