Next Newspapers Needs Writers

Next Newspapers (Timbuktu Media), Oregun, Lagos is looking for copy editors and re-writers for its quality control desk. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, along with an excellent grasp of spelling and grammar. This position requires nighttime and weekend work. We might also be willing to consider part-time work.

A potential copy editor:

· * Must be a fast learner

· * Must have strong written and oral communication

· * Must be able to conduct fact checks

· * Must be able to learn and adhere to Next’s style guide

· * Must be able to write compelling headlines and photo captions

· * Pays close attention to detail, keeping a keen eye out for typos

· * Inputs changes into layouts accurately and quickly

· * Double checks work, and works with editorial and art teams to address copy fit or other story issues

· * Works well under deadline and can manage and prioritize multiple assignments

· * Willingness to help with other tasks as assigned by Next, such as writing small assignments

· * Must have good work ethic

In addition to having all the qualities of a copy editor, a re-writer, applicants

must be able to transform reporters’ stories into engaging, interesting, clear and concise reads
