Chinaza James-Ibe Wins the Inaugural Creative Writing News Editorial Fellowship

Creative Writing News is proud to announce Chinaza James-Ibe as the inaugural winner of the Creative Writing News Editorial Fellowship.

The Creative Writing News Editorial Fellowship, sponsored by Asterism Communications, is a new fellowship awarded to writers who demonstrate not only exceptional literary talent but also a dedicated interest in the growth and flourishing of the global literary community. The goal of the fellowship is to encourage more passionate people in the literature space to keep using the platform to promote the community. The selected fellow will be awarded 600,000 Naira, disbursed in monthly installments at the end of each month.

About the 2026 Creative Writing News Editorial Fellowship

Chinaza James-Ibe is an award-winning writer, poet, editor, and photographer who captures moments and dilemmas in Nigeria through her work. As a writer, her work has been featured in several magazines, including Lolwe, The Shallow Tales Review, Agbowo, and Brittle Paper. She has been awarded the fellowship for her contribution to the industry through content creation, management, and marketing. As an Editorial Contributor for Creative Writing News, James-Ibe has promoted the literary community through detailed literary reviews, like her review of Nikki May’s This Motherless Land. She has also conducted interviews with prolific authors, such as Mubanaga Kalimawento, author of The Shipishika Club. Additionally, James-Ibe has written over 200 blog posts about free opportunities for writers worldwide.

The Creative Writing News Editorial Fellowship Requirements

The fellowship is a one-year commitment; this year, it runs from April 2, 2026, to March 2, 2027. An Editorial Fellow’s responsibilities will include:

  • Editorial Content: Writing 12 original blog posts focusing on industry news and opportunities for writers, and updating old posts as needed.
  • Literary Criticism: Contributing book reviews to the platform. A bonus will be paid on such occasions.
  • Digital Engagement: Managing and growing our presence across social media platforms.
  • Attending staff meetings with the founder of Creative Writing News at least twice a month.
