Book XI Literary Journal Is Accepting Submissions/ How To Submit (Pay: $50 – $200)

Book XI: A Journal of Literary Philosophy is a literary journal,housed at Hamilton College’s Arthur Levitt Center for Public Affairs. They are currently looking for submissions for their 14th edition on the theme of love.  

They publish personal essays, memoir, fiction, science fiction, humor, and poetry with philosophical themes. Book XI will consider only previously unpublished and philosophically informed creative work (though their understanding of “philosophically informed” is capacious).”


Submission Guidelines For Book XI Literary Journal 


They welcome submissions from writers regardless of background or affiliation. 

Authors should ensure their work aligns with the journal’s philosophical focus.

Book XI accepts previously unpublished prose and poetry exploring philosophical themes. 

All submissions should be made through Submittable

There is no submission fee.

Book XI does not accept previously published work or submissions exceeding 10,000 words.

You can submit one prose manuscript or up to five poems (through Submittable.)

They realize that you might also want to submit the same manuscript to other literary journals. If you do, please include a note to that effect in the cover letter you include with your submission and notify them immediately if the piece(s) you sent to them is(are) accepted for publication by another magazine or journal.

Please submit poems in one document. 

Authors retain the rights to their work.


What They Want


1. Theme: Submissions should revolve around the theme of “Love.”

2. Genre: They accept personal essays, memoir, fiction, science fiction, humor, and poetry.

3. Philosophical Elements: All submissions should be philosophically informed.

4. Length: Prose pieces should range from 2,000 to 7,000 words but can be shorter or longer. Poems should be submitted in one document.




Book XI pays $200 for each piece that they publish and $50 for each poem they publish.




The deadline for submissions is 8 March 2024, or until the issue is filled.
