  • As of November 2022, they only accept submissions through Moksha. Submissions sent via email will be disregarded.
  • The magazine publishes themed issues four times a year, with submission periods in January, April, July, and October.
  • Short stories should be between 1,000 to 5,000 words, while flash fiction must be under 1,000 words.
  • Follow the formatting guidelines specified for each submission category.
  • Only submit unpublished speculative fiction stories and poems. Avoid AI-generated content.
  • They accept simultaneous submissions from writers who identify as Disabled, BIPOC, or LGBTQIA+.
  • Please note your identity and that it’s a simultaneous submission in your cover letter.

  • Submit only one short story and one poem per theme. Multiple submissions or withdrawn stories during the same submission period are not accepted.
  • Avoid submitting nonfiction, reprints, excerpts, or unsolicited interviews or reviews.
  • Stories with gratuitous violence, rape, child abuse, or extreme violence toward animals will not be considered.
  • Submissions in these categories will not be accepted.


Eligibility Criteria For Apparition Lit

They welcome submissions from writers of all backgrounds, with a focus on promoting diversity and inclusivity within the speculative fiction community. Key eligibility criteria include:

1. Open to All Writers: The magazine accepts submissions from writers worldwide.

3. Past Contributors: If you’ve been published by Apparition Lit, wait 3-4 submission periods before submitting again. Flash fiction contest winners can submit for quarterly issues after 6 months.



Author Rights


Upon acceptance, authors grant Apparition Lit the right to publish their work online and in the quarterly edition. Rights revert back to the artist after one year.



Pay Rates

Apparition Lit offers semi-pro rates for published works:

  • They pay $0.05 per word, with a minimum payment of $50.00 for short stories.
  • Then, a flat fee of $50.00 for Poems.




Submission periods for each themed issue vary, so be sure to check the magazine’s website for the latest information. Additionally, monthly flash fiction contests run from the 1st to the 15th of each month.
