About the Amy Lowell Poetry Scholarship
The Amy Lowell Poetry Travelling Scholarship was established in 1925 following the death of American poet Amy Lowell, who provided for the annual scholarship in her will.
The award supports poets in travelling and spending a year outside the United States while continuing their creative work.
There is no requirement for applicants to have previously published a book or to hold a particular educational qualification.

Scholarship Award
The winning poet will receive $78,000.
Upon accepting the scholarship, the recipient is required to travel outside the United States for the entire year. They increase the scholarship amount annually to keep up with inflation.
Eligibility Requirements for the Amy Lowell Poetry Scholarship
The scholarship has relatively few formal eligibility requirements.
Applicants:

- Must be poets
- Do not need to meet a specific age requirement
- Do not need to have published poetry previously
- Do not need to meet an educational requirement

Applications must include:
1. Completed Application
Applicants must submit two copies of the completed application.
A two- to three-page curriculum vitae may also be submitted, although it is optional. You should provide two copies if you decide to include it.
2. Poetry Sample
Applicants must submit a sample of their poetry in one of two formats:
- Up to 40 typed pages, submitted in two copies; or
- Two copies of a printed volume of poetry, plus two copies of no more than 20 additional typed pages.
- There is no minimum page requirement and no prescribed formatting style. However, make sure to number every page.
- You should send both copies of the poetry sample in a single envelope.
- Paper copies are required. Do not email or fax your application.
Application Deadline
Completed applications and all required attachments must be received by October 15.
The Selection Committee will notify the winner by the end of March.
