The Innovation Project Grants by Literary Art Fund ($1m)

Literary Arts Fund Opens Applications for 2026 Innovation Project Grants

The Literary Arts Fund has announced its 2026 Innovation Project Grants, committing $1 million in funding to support new, one-time, and forward-thinking projects that address critical structural challenges facing literary arts organizations.

The grants will help literary arts nonprofits strengthen their capacity to serve creative writers while developing solutions with impact that extends beyond the project period.

Details of the Innovation Project Grants

  • Eligible nonprofit literary arts organizations, publishers, and fiscally sponsored literary arts projects may apply for grants ranging from $25,000 to $100,000.
  • Organizations may undertake projects independently or collaboratively, with one organization serving as the lead applicant. Collaborative partners receiving project funds must also meet the Literary Arts Fund’s eligibility requirements.
  • Unlike many funding opportunities, matching funds are not required, and applicants do not need to secure additional funding before applying.

Project Timeline

Funded projects must:

  • Begin after January 1, 2027
  • Conclude on or before December 31, 2027
  • Use grant funds according to the approved project budget and timeline

Successful applicants will receive grant funds in a single payment.

Deadline

Applications are open through Submittable from June 8, 2026, to August 17, 2026. Funding decisions will be announced by December 31, 2026.

Organizations that wish to revise an application after submission must withdraw the original application and submit a new one before the deadline.

Applicants should note that they are not permitted to use generative AI to produce any portion of the application narrative.

Who should apply for the Innovation Project Grant?

The grant is particularly relevant for literary organizations exploring innovative ways to strengthen the literary ecosystem, expand services to writers, improve publishing access, develop new programming models, or address long-standing industry challenges.

For organizations interested in launching new publishing initiatives, resources such as How to Start a Literary Magazine can provide valuable guidance on building sustainable literary platforms. Likewise, understanding the value of professional development opportunities through articles like 5 Benefits of Writing Internships may help organizations design projects that better support emerging writers.

How to Apply

Interested organizations can submit their applications through the Literary Arts Fund’s Submittable portal. Applicants should review the eligibility requirements and prepare all supporting materials before they begin the application process.
