VIII International Microfiction Contest (€20,000 Grand Prize)
The César Egido Serrano Foundation has officially opened submissions for the VIII International Microfiction Contest, inviting writers from around the world to participate in one of the most prestigious and inclusive flash-writing competitions globally.
Over the years, the contest has grown into a landmark literary event, drawing tens of thousands of submissions across continents and languages. At its core, the initiative champions the written word as a means of dialogue, cultural exchange, and peaceful coexistence, reaffirming literature’s enduring social power.
Whether you are a seasoned author or writing microfiction for the first time, this edition offers both significant recognition and substantial financial rewards.
About the Contest
The competition welcomes original, unpublished micro-stories on any subject, written in Spanish, English, Arabic, or Hebrew. Each story must not exceed 100 words (as counted in Spanish).
Participants may submit up to three micro-stories, regardless of language choice. The submission process is free and open internationally.
The evaluation unfolds in two stages:
- Public voting, where participants and readers anonymously score selected stories.
- Final jury evaluation, conducted by professional writers and writing professors, who determine the winners.
Prizes
- Grand Prize: €20,000 (best story across all languages)
- Three Runner-Up Prizes: €2,000 each (one per remaining language)
They will award all prizes as gross amounts and pay via bank transfer after applicable taxes.
Eligibility Requirements for the VIII International Microfiction Contest
- Open to writers 18 years and older
- Writers aged 16–17 may apply with notarized parental consent
- Employees and board members of the César Egido Serrano Foundation are not eligible
- AI-generated or AI-assisted texts are strictly prohibited
Submission Timeline for the VIII International Microfiction Contest
- Submission opens: October 2, 2025
- Submission deadline: January 31, 2026 (23:59 Spanish mainland time)
- Public voting period: Up to 60 days after submissions close
