Submit to the Berlin Literary Review
The Berlin Literary Review invites writers worldwide to submit original and unpublished work for its online magazine. Known for curating literary short fiction, flash fiction, poetry, and nonfiction, the magazine provides a platform for fresh voices and bold perspectives. Writers whose work is accepted grant The Berlin Literary Review first serial rights, after which all rights automatically return to the author. Should you choose to republish your piece elsewhere, the editors ask that you acknowledge the magazine as the original publisher.
Submission Guidelines for The Berlin Literary
The editors are committed to fairness and clarity, so all submissions must follow these requirements:
- Submit your work as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx), formatted in double-spacing with 12-point font.
- Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but you must promptly withdraw your work if it is accepted elsewhere.
- The editors aim to respond to all submissions within three months. Please do not email to inquire about your submission’s status until that time has passed.
- Beginning in September 2025, one piece from each reading period will be chosen as the issue’s Centrepiece, presented first and most prominently. The selected author will receive a €25 honorarium.
- Standout pieces may also be nominated for the Pushcart Prize and other prestigious awards.
- Writers who engage in racism, sexism, homophobia, or other forms of bigotry are asked not to submit.
Categories The Berlin Literary Review Accept
Fiction
The Review seeks literary short fiction and flash fiction. While there is no set word limit, pieces over 5,000 words will be a difficult sell. Every submission should include a short bio (100 words max).
Poetry
Poets may submit up to five poems in a single .doc or .docx file. Like fiction submissions, these should be accompanied by a brief bio of no more than 100 words.
Nonfiction
Writers are encouraged to submit travel-related essays, which have long been a feature of the publication. Beginning September 2025, The Berlin Literary Review will also welcome opinion pieces that tackle current events, social issues, or cultural phenomena with depth and originality. There is no word limit for nonfiction submissions.
Why Submit?
Publishing with The Berlin Literary Review is not only a chance to showcase your work to an engaged international audience but also an opportunity to have your writing considered for respected prizes. The journal highlights one Centrepiece work per issue and continues to seek writing that sparks dialogue, expands perspective, and captures the complexity of contemporary life.
