Fahmidan Journal: Submission Guidelines and Opportunities for Writers
Fahmidan Journal continues to champion bold, original voices from around the world. Founded in 2020 and based in London, the journal publishes quarterly online issues that showcase thought-provoking poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. Fahmidan seeks writing that stirs emotion and challenges perception—whether existential, whimsical, or deeply personal.
Year-Round Submissions at Fahmidan Journal
Writers can submit work to Fahmidan Journal all year through Submittable. The reading periods follow a quarterly schedule:
- December 16 – March 14: Summer Issue (June 10 release)
- March 15 – June 15: Autumn Issue (September 10 release)
- June 16 – September 14: Winter Issue (December 10 release)
- September 15 – December 15: Spring Issue (March 10 release)
From Issue 24 onward, contributors receive $35 per piece upon publication. Fahmidan purchases First British Serial, Anthology, and Audio Rights, and retains the right to archive accepted works online.
Submission Requirements for Fahmidan Journal
Submissions must be unpublished and written in English, though pieces that include other languages are welcome. The journal encourages simultaneous submissions, as long as writers withdraw accepted work promptly.
- Submit only Word documents without names or identifying information.
- Entrants must be 18 years or older.
- Fahmidan accepts only one submission per category at a time.
- Submissions must come through Submittable; emailed works are ignored.
Current and former staff members are not eligible to submit. Fahmidan will not consider work that promotes hate or discrimination of any kind.
Genre Guidelines for Fahmidan Journal
Poetry
Writers may submit up to seven poems (or three for free submissions). Each poem should be single-spaced, start on a new page, and not exceed three A4 pages.
Short Fiction and Nonfiction
Submit one story or essay between 1,000 and 2,500 words. Fahmidan does not accept excerpts of longer works.
Flash Fiction and Nonfiction
Writers may send up to five pieces (or two for free submissions) under 800 words each.
Feedback and Review Process
The team maintains a 25-day turnaround for all submissions. If feedback takes longer, Fahmidan refunds any submission fee (excluding paid critiques) while still considering the work. Writers may receive a response in as little as 24 hours.
Paid Feedback Options
- Reader Feedback: A paragraph of comments on up to three poems or short prose pieces, addressing narrative, structure, and language.
- Editorial Feedback: Line comments plus a detailed, three-paragraph analysis on sets of 3, 6, or 9 poems.
Most fees go directly to readers and editors, ensuring transparency and fair pay.
Global Inclusivity and Ethics
Fahmidan welcomes submissions from all countries and cultural backgrounds. The journal maintains strict ethical standards—AI-generated works are prohibited. If AI authorship is discovered, Fahmidan will reject or withdraw the piece and ban future submissions.
