Patrick Henry History Fellowship is now open

The Patrick Henry History Fellowship is a initiative of The Starr Center the Study of the American Experience.

It invites applications for its full-time residential fellowship, which supports outstanding work on American history by both scholars and non-academics.

Eligibility and Project Requirements

In order to apply, applicants should have a substantial project currently underway. This could be a book, film, oral history archive, podcast series, museum exhibition, or similar work. Moreover, the project should address the history and/or legacy—broadly defined—of the U.S. founding era and/or the nation’s founding ideas. It can focus directly on early America or explore how the issues that concerned the founding generation have shaped later American history.

Furthermore, projects that contribute to ongoing national conversations about America’s past and present, with the potential to reach a wide public, are particularly sought.

Encouraged Topics

Additionally, the fellowship encourages a wide interpretation of terms such as “founders” and “founding ideas.” Past fellowship topics have included:
– The early history of the slave trade
