The African Export-Import Bank’s (Afreximbank), through its Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) program, has announced the second edition of the CANEX Creative Writing Workshop—a prestigious, fully funded residency aimed at nurturing the next generation of literary voices.

What to Expect
The CANEX Creative Writing Workshop 2025 is a five-day in-person residency focused on creative writing for fiction and creative nonfiction. It offers intensive training, professional mentorship, and practical insight into the writing industry.
Twenty selected participants will benefit from:
- Masterclasses with acclaimed authors and publishing professionals
- Training in the business and legal aspects of writing
- Peer-learning and constructive feedback opportunities
- A certificate of completion awarded at a closing reception
- Participation in CANEX@IATF2025, a key event for creatives and entrepreneurs
Translation support will be provided in Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish to ensure accessibility across linguistic backgrounds.

Eligibility Requirements for the CANEX Creative Writing Workshop
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be of African or Caribbean descent
- Hold citizenship in a country that is a member of the African Union or CARICOM
- Submit a 500-word sample of original fiction or creative nonfiction
- Provide proof of citizenship (passport data page)
