Heroines Anthology Volume 7: Submit your poetry and short fiction by July 30, 2026

Writing The Heroine is inviting women writers from around the world to submit poetry and short fiction for Heroines Anthology Volume 7 and the Heroines Women’s Writing Prize.

The anthology focuses on women’s lost histories, untold stories, and myths, fairy tales, folklore, and legends reimagined from women’s perspectives. Submit literary work that explores, reimagines, or newly imagines women’s stories and experiences.

 

Submission Categories for the Heroines Anthology

For Volume 7, writers may submit:

• Poetry: Single poems of up to three pages, formatted in a 12-point standard font with 1.5 line spacing.
• Short fiction: Stories of up to 2,500 words.

You may submit more than one poem or short story, but submit each as a separate document, and a submission fee applies to each entry.

The anthology generally does not publish memoir unless the work has a strong connection to the publication’s central themes. It also does not accept work written by artificial intelligence.

The call is open to women writers from anywhere in the world. Previously published work is eligible as long as the writer retains the rights to publish it.

 

Heroines Women’s Writing Prize

Every submission will automatically be considered for the Heroines Women’s Writing Prize.

The first-prize winner will receive $500 for either a poem or a piece of short fiction. All shortlisted entries will be published in Heroines Anthology Volume 7.

 

Submission Fee

The submission fee is $15 per poem. The submission page indicates that writers experiencing financial difficulties may contact the organisers regarding the fee.

Submissions are final and fees are non-refundable. Writers cannot amend or alter a submission after submission. You can resubmit altered work as a new submission.

 

Deadline and Submission Process

• Submit through the official online submission form. The organizers extended the deadline to July 30, 2026.
• The longlist, shortlist, and prize announcement dates will be announced later in 2026. All writers whose work is accepted for publication will receive a copy of Heroines Anthology Volume 7.
• Dr. Sarah Nicholson will edit the anthology.
• Before submitting, writers should read a previous volume of the anthology to understand the kind of work the publication seeks and to see which stories and myths the publication has already explored.
