Writers Space Africa is now accepting submissions for the 114th edition of WSA Magazine, scheduled for release on June 1, 2026. The upcoming issue centers on the timely theme “The Unemployed,” inviting African writers to explore joblessness, uncertainty, resilience, survival, and the social realities surrounding work and identity.
The submission window will open on March 20 and close on April 20, 2026. Writers from across the continent may submit their work in only one category.
Categories and Word Limits
WSA is accepting submissions in the following categories:
- Creative Non-Fiction: 1,200 words maximum
- Children’s Literature: 700 words maximum
- Flash Fiction: 300 words maximum
- Poetry: 1 poem, up to 24 lines
- Short Stories: 1,500 words maximum
Writers can include illustrations for children’s literature, but they must ensure poems in that category do not exceed the 24-line limit.
Submission Guidelines for Writers Space Africa
Carefully edit your work before submitting and include both the title and chosen category in the document.
Because the issue is theme-driven, it may help to first study how theme operates in narrative work. This guide on theme in fiction and thematic concepts offers useful insight for shaping stronger submissions. Writers looking to deepen their creative angle can also explore these successful writing ideas before final revisions.
All selected and non-selected writers will receive responses, with the editorial team expected to contact authors by May 2026. Published works will appear on the WSA website after the issue goes live.
Importantly, authors retain full copyright of their work.
How to Submit
Submissions must be uploaded through the official Google Forms submission portal before April 20, 2026.
The June 2026 edition will be officially published on June 1, 2026, making this a strong opportunity for African writers to contribute to an issue focused on one of today’s most urgent social realities.
