The Hudson Review Short Fiction Prize

The Hudson Review, one of the most respected quarterlies of literature and the arts, has opened submissions for its biennial Short Fiction Contest. Writers from around the world are invited to send in their best work between September 1 and November 30, 2025. Submissions close at 11:59 p.m. EST on November 30 for online entries, while mailed submissions must be postmarked the same day.

Prizes

  • First Prize: $1,000 + publication
  • Second Prize: $500 + publication
  • Third Prize: $500 + publication

All winning stories will appear in The Hudson Review, and all submissions will be considered for publication at the journal’s regular rates.

Eligibility & Guidelines for the Hudson Review Short Fiction Prize

  • Open to writers who have never been published in The Hudson Review.
  • Stories must not exceed 10,000 words.
  • Submissions must be original and unpublished. Work posted online in any form—including blogs or social media—will not be considered.
  • No simultaneous submissions.
  • No entry fee.
  • Contest is open to both U.S. and international writers.
  • Submissions may be sent online or by mail (include a self-addressed stamped envelope) to:
