African Writers Awards | How to Submit
Enter the 2025 African Writers Awards
Writers Space Africa has officially opened submissions for the 2025 African Writers Awards. This annual competition recognizes excellence in storytelling by African writers. If you write poetry, short stories, or children’s literature, this is your chance to gain recognition and win a cash prize.
Categories and Theme
The awards are divided into three categories: Poetry, Short Story, and the Wakini Kuria Prize for Children’s Literature. This year’s theme is “African Pride: A Cultural Narrative.” All submissions must explore this theme in creative, meaningful ways.
Eligibility Requirements for the African Writers Awards
Writers of African descent are eligible to apply. However, you may only submit to one category—so choose carefully. Entries must be original, unpublished, and not written with the help of AI. Previous winners may not enter the same category they won.
Submission Guidelines
- Poetry: At least 14 lines.
- Short Stories: 3,000–5,000 words.
- Children’s Literature: Aimed at ages 6–12.
All entries should align with the theme. You can only submit once, and all submissions must be in English.

All winning entries will be published in the 2026 edition of Writers Space Africa magazine and featured on the African Writers Conference website.
