Submit to the Bloomin’ Onion Literary Magazine
The Bloomin’ Onion currently accepts submissions of flash fiction, short stories, and longform stories year-round. Poetry submissions open October 1, 2025. The magazine publishes two issues annually (April & October), and in between issues it features weekly flash/short story content (Saturdays) and, starting Nov 4, 2025, poetry (Tuesdays). Longform stories appear as stand-alone features every other month.
What to Submit to the Bloomin’ Onion Lit Mag
- Flash Fiction: under 1,000 words (open)
- Short Stories: 1,001-5,000 words (open)
- Longform Stories: 5,001-15,000 words (open)
- Poetry: up to 6 poems or 20 pages total (opens October 1, 2025)
Submission Limits Per Period
- Up to two fiction pieces in any mix of flash / short / longform per submission period
- Up to six poems or twenty pages of poetry once poetry submissions are open
Key Rules & Policies of the Bloomin’ Onion Lit Mag
- Submissions must be unpublished (except in defunct magazines)
- Simultaneous submissions allowed; withdraw if accepted elsewhere
- Content that is racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, AI-generated, hateful, or of “poor taste” is banned and may result in contributor being blocked
- All accepted work grants First North American Serial Rights + First Electronic Rights; rights revert to author after publication

- Use specific subject-line formats for Fiction / Multiple Fiction / Poetry submissions
- Attach as .docx; PDF acceptable if formatting requires
- Include short cover letter + third-person bio (100 words max), social media handles, and hometown
- Indicate if the writer has three or fewer total publications
