2024 Creative Writers Empowerment Workshop/ How To Apply

The Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) has announced its 2024 Creative Writers Empowerment Workshop, slated to take place at the University of Abuja and Mamman Vatsa’s Writers Village, Mpape, Abuja.

Led by Professor Olu Obafemi as Chair, Professor Akachi Ezeigbo as Co-Chair, and Professor Sola Fosudo as Secretary, the workshop aims to empower creative writers across various genres.
The Creative Writers Empowerment Workshop organized by the Nigerian Academy of Letters presents a valuable opportunity for writers to showcase their talents, receive constructive feedback, and engage with fellow writers and literary experts.

Submission Guidelines For The Creative Writers Empowerment Workshop

Creative writers interested in participating in the workshop are invited to submit original and unpublished works in Drama, Poetry, Prose, and Children’s Literature.
The committee welcomes submissions that demonstrate creativity, originality, and literary merit.
Submissions should explore diverse themes and narratives across the specified genres. Works that engage readers emotionally and intellectually are encouraged.
The committee does not accept previously published works or submissions that exceed the specified length requirements.
Additionally, plagiarized or derivative works will not be considered for the workshop.
All submissions must unpublished, and must not be more than 10 pages for Poetry and 15 to 20 pages for Drama, Prose, and Children’s Literature
Submissions must include author’s name, phone number and e-mail address. It should be sent as pdf to [email protected], and copied to [email protected] and [email protected].

Eligibility Criteria

The Creative Writers Empowerment Workshop is open to creative writers of all backgrounds and levels of experience. Participants must be willing to engage in the capacity-building activities offered during the workshop. While there are no specific age or educational requirements, participants must adhere to the submission guidelines provided by the committee.

Author Rights

Authors retain full ownership and copyright of their submitted works. The committee respects the intellectual property rights of authors and will not use or distribute submitted works without prior consent.

Payment

The Creative Writers Empowerment Workshop does not entail any payment for participation or submission of works. It is designed as a platform for capacity building and empowerment within the Nigerian creative writing community.

The deadline for submission of entries is Thursday, February 15, 2024. Authors are encouraged to submit their works well in advance of the deadline to ensure consideration for the workshop.
