Short story writers are invited to send in entries for the Short Story Day Africa Prize.

Awards: Grand prize – R10,000 ; Second prize –  R2000 and third prize – R1000. All three prize winners will receive a 20 Week Online Writing Course from All About Writing.

This year’s judges are; Tendai Huchu (Zimbabwe), Sindiwe Magona (South Africa), and Hawa Jade Golakai (Liberia).

To be eligible for this short story award;

  • Writers must be African.
  • Submitted stories must not have been previously published stories.
  • No simultaneous submissions.
  • Your story must be between 3000 – 5000 words.
  • Submissions must reflect the theme of migration.

Story Format is as follows:

  • Type your document, using a single, clear font, 12-point size, double-spaced. The easiest font to use is Times New Roman, or a similar serif font.
  • Put the title of your story halfway down the cover page. Please DO NOT title your story Migrations. Start your story immediately below the title.
  • Put an accurate word count at the top right.
  • Please number the pages.
  • Left-justify your paragraphs.
