Stylist Magazine is Currently Accepting Pitches / How To Apply (Pay Rate: £150)

Do you have an article that relates to fashion, style, beauty, or any idea that would be perfect for a Stylist Magazine? Good! You’ve come to the right place.

Stylist Magazine focuses on publishing a diverse range of voices and they welcome pitches from freelance writers. Stylist Magazine is a weekly magazine and a website for smart, successful, and sophisticated women. Their fashion editor is commissioning thought-provoking and original fashion features.

How to Pitch to Stylist Magazine

  • All their features have a timely reason for appearing in the magazine.
  • The stories they publish have strong feminist angles.
  • The magazine generally commissions features one week to three months in advance of publication.
  • Interested freelancers should consider pitching for the main features section, rather than the regulars, which tend to be compiled in-house.
  • On Stylist, they seek both long-lead and very punchy, timely commissions. It could be a feature hooked off breaking news which needs to be turned around within the hour, or a lengthy long read with plenty of expert comments and in-depth research behind it.
  • If you are interested in pitching to Stylist, they look for smart, original, newsworthy journalism, covering themes such as: women’s lifestyle, feminism, current affairs, social trends, culture, health, careers, relationships, dating, sex and tech.
  • They want stories that one would not ordinarily come across in the wider news — something different, unique, original and with a compelling narrative arc.
  • Consider sending in a niche real life story, an unexpected new trend, or a unique point of view on a current topic. Astonish Stylist Editors!

Submission Guidelines

  • Features pitches for the magazine should be sent to [email protected].
  • It is best to send them early in the week.
  • As you apply, have in mind that both inboxes receive hundreds of pitches per day — so, make your email subject line stand out and try to keep pitches to 2-3 paragraphs max.
  • Due to the volume of pitches, the editors may not reply personally to you, however they will commit to reading and considering every idea that is sent in.

Your pitch must include – A punchy, Stylist headline (the best pitches have an opener that immediately draws us in) – A clearly defined angle and a tangible news hook – Explain why your idea is unique (you have to stand out) – Information on your previous writing experience or examples of your work.

Payment

The magazine pays £150 for 800 to 1,000 words. If interested, send your pitches to [email protected]. For more information, refer to their fashion editor’s Tweet and their pitch guide.
