Paying and Non-paying Markets For Short Fiction

Flashfictiononline.com/main: Pays $60 per story. Word count 500 – 1000 words. I was once a finalist and got detailed critiques on why my story didn’t make it to the top. Not very many magazines do this. They do not accept email submissions. All stories must be submitted via Submishmash .

Short fiction Break: Accepts fiction up to 2,500 words long. The body of the email should contain your query letter and a short bio. The story itself should be an email attachment. Email submissions to: [email protected]

Front Porch Review doesn’t pay for stories. They accept essays and prose fiction up to 5000words long. Stories should be pasted in the body of the email. Unsolicited attachments will not be opened or read. Email submissions to [email protected]. Send 1 prose piece, 1-5 poems, or 1-4 photos at a time. Response time: One month.

Literaryhatchet.com pays $10 for short stories and humour pieces, $5 for interviews, reviews, poetry, art/illustrations, and poems. Word count for prose fiction is 1000 – 6000 words. The Hatchet publishes dark fiction (short stories) and provocative poetry and prose. They are interested in well-written but easy to read stories in the horror genre. They also accept jokes and humorous pieces. No simultaneous submissions, please. Entries can be sent via Submittable.com. Click HERE or go to https://peartreepress.submittable.com/submit

Neon Magazine publishes fiction and poetry long enough to fill three pages of the magazine. “Accepted authors receive one contributor copy, as well as a royalty derived from sales, subscriptions and donations – usually about £8.” Read previous stories to know what kind of stories the editor likes. Want to submit? Email a query letter and your story (pasted in the body of the email) to the editor, Krishan Coupland, on [email protected].

Good luck
