The Commonwealth foundation modernised the twenty-five-year-old Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and the more recent Commonwealth Short Story Competition and launched two new awards in their place: the Commonwealth Book Prize and the Commonwealth Short Story Prize.
According to a Commonwealth foundation newsletter, the shortlists for both prizes will be announced on 24 April. On 22 May, the five regional winners for each prize will be disclosed. From those regional winners, two overall winners will be selected, one for the Commonwealth Book Prize and one for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize.

The forum will be used to explore publishing solutions, which could help create a fairer and more accessible publishing landscape for writers and readers.
There’ll be a publishing debate at the Hay Festival. At The Literary Consultancy in London, there will also be an examination of international perspectives on publishing on Saturday 9 June. This event will be chaired by Ellah Allfrey, deputy editor of Granta.
