British Red Cross International Day of the Disappeared Creative Writing Competition

Do you want to give a voice to the thousands of missing people in the world? Then enter for this Red Cross-organized creative writing competition.

Deadline: 30 August, 2011.

Each year (30 August), The International Day of the Disappeared is marked for the commemoration of people who have gone missing in wars and in situations of armed conflicts. On this day, thousands of families who still wonder about the whereabouts of their loved ones are remembered. Oragnisations such as the Red Cross, who are dedicated to restoring contact between separated family members, are also recognized.

The guidelines are simple:

The theme of the message must be on ‘the disappeared’.

The work must be written in English and must fit into an A4-sized paper.

Entries should be original, previously unpublished and not already accepted for publishing.

The work could be any genre: prose, poetry, comic strip, diary excerpt, song or anything on the chosen theme.

Entries may be typed or hand-written.

The winning entry will receive a cash prize of £50 and a £50 national book voucher.

A compendium of the top entries will be compiled and published for International Day of the Disappeared 2012. Free copies shall be given to the authors of published entries.

Entries will be judged by local authors and Red Cross representatives.

The name and address of the entrant should be clearly listed separately from the entry.
