Do you remember Bayan Layi? Shortlisted for the 2013 Caine Prize, Elnathan John has written a novel about the lively Dantala.

According to the press release, “Dantala lives in Bayan Layi and studies in a Sufi school, far away from home. By chance he starts to follow gang leader Banda, a nominal Muslim. Dantala is thrust into a world with fluid rules and casual violence. In the bloody aftermath of the elections he runs away and ends up living in a mosque.

Born on a Tuesday will be released on the 12th of November, 2015 by Cassava Republic. On November 14th, 2015, Elnathan John will be attending  the Lagos Art and Book Fair in Freedom Park, Lagos, where he’ll sign copies. An Abuja reading will follow two weeks later.

In May 2016, the American edition of this novel will be released in the US  by Grove Atlantic Press. A French translation will be out in August 2016 from Galaade Editions.
